the brief
A forever home for a young family, designed to grow with them over decades. The brief was to create a house that felt established and grounded from day one, with character and details that would age beautifully. A classic country aesthetic with a contemporary edge guided the design.
The client
Originally based in Sydney, this family wanted to relocate to the country. With existing ties to the Scone area, the move represented a shift in pace and lifestyle. When they first met with MARG. Studio they were a family of 4, and they moved to the home as a family of 5 ready to set up their lives and make some memories for decades to come.
The clients love for polished concrete flooring throughout set a great starting point for the rest of the selections.
The space
The standout feature of this site is its position on the top of the hill with sweeping 360-degree views. Through early floor plan refinements prior to DA submission views were revealed throughout the house – at the end of the hallway, from bedrooms and through French doors off the study. A key material starting point was the clients love for polished concrete flooring throughout. Texture and warmth were introduced through wallpaper, layered panelling, considered stone selections and bold yet balanced paint choices.
A carefully thought out powder room that we had fun selecting the palette for. Higgledy Piggledy wallpaper by Anna Spiro.
The result
A warm, enduring home designed for family life, with plenty of room for the owners to continue adding their own layers over time.
The beauty and challenge of a new build is in adding layers and detail — the finishes above have been thoughtfully considered and carefully executed alongside Mable Projects.
