“I loved the whole process…it was a great stepping stone process to get to the end result!”

-Sarah 2019

I bring older residential and commercial spaces to life, doing justice to their original charm while making a place that feels good to be in.

These spaces acknowledge the pleasure of the little things in life, like preparing a meal for your friends or family, or reading a book in the afternoon sun.

Here’s how we will be MARGvellous together...

1. the LAUNCH

To start working together, we need to get to know each other and explore your needs. The first way to do this is through a free phone call with me so we can get a sense of each other and what your project is. Following that we will meet, ideally on site to discuss the nitty gritty of the project and what is required.

After this meeting I will put together your Proposal which includes a Return Brief, Scope of Works, Quote for my services and any initial design ideas we might have discussed on site. Basically the proposal outlines your requirements along with an idea of how the project will run from start to finish so you always know where you stand.

This meeting is charged at a flat fee of $660. Why charge? Your time and mine is precious - the payment is an assurance that you have my undivided attention to understand your design needs.

From there, if you think we'll be a great fit, we move on to...

2.CONCEPT DESIGN - The Suburb, The Site and The Space

To design something once and to do it well, we need to delve deeper than the visual. We begin in the past and start exploring. What is the history of the suburb? What does it tell us about your home or business? How can this be adapted to contemporary living?

Following on from what you have outlined to me during our first meeting I research the suburb, the site and the space to give us the cues we need to create a home or business that includes a level of consideration and detail far beyond the surface aesthetics.

We create an overall direction for the project as well as individual mood boards to direct each space so we know everything will tie in together while having it’s own look and feel.

One of the most important steps in this phase is reviewing your floor plans to make sure it functions. We look at everything from how you move through the space down to how all your cupboard doors will open. To get a sense of what sort of things you can check on your own floor plan, download my checklist here.

Once we have achieved the project’s concept direction we move onto...

3. designing, detailing,DECIDING

It's at this stage that the spaces really starts to take shape. We build on the work done so far to sketch, explore and decide on your interior details and specify your fixtures, finishes, paints and appliances. Samples will be flying everywhere but not to worry, I will keep you on track.

The outcome of this phase will be draft technical drawings (detailed interior floor plans, sections, elevations and 3D visualisations there required) with a draft product and finishes schedule (like a shopping list of interior products needed to bring the design to life).

4. DOCUMENTING

Then, with your sign off, we'll finalise your plans and product lists down to the smallest details and work with your builder to hand these over so the heavy lifting can start! By having thorough drawings and schedules of products we ensure that nothing is overlooked and your trades have a full picture of what is to be included and can plan and order accordingly.

5. BUILD & INSTALL

With a fully documented project complete you can choose to work with your builder to buy and install your specified products or bring me back in to organise these for you. This part of your project involves site visits with joiners, tilers and trades to get the build finished and ensure everything is being installed as we had imagined.

“Em was able to help problem solve any problem that arose in the design and build process.” - Sarah 2019

6. furniture, art + styling

Once the builder is happily working away to get your space built we can start exploring your furniture, art and styling options. It doesn’t matter if you have no idea what you want or come fully prepared with magazine clippings, Pinterest boards and Instagram ideas. Either way, I'm here to help guide you through what you are looking for and what's going to work best in your new space. It also gives us something to do while your space is being built!
